Winter Lecture Series #3
The ABC's of Oyster Aquaculture in Virginia
VIRTUAL LECTURE
Discover how VIMS researchers produce the polyploid oysters that transformed Virginia’s oyster aquaculture industry. This presentation is an overview of oyster aquaculture with a focus on the triploid and tetraploid oyster work done at the Kauffman Aquaculture Center in Topping, VA- one of two oyster hatcheries operated by the Aquaculture Genetics and Breeding Technology Center (ABC) at VIMS. The audience will also learn how breeding is helping oysters live longer, grow faster, and have better meat quality.
Speaker: Shelley Katsuki, Kauffman Aquaculture Center/Field Specialist
