Boat Shop

Established in 2004 in the Pendleton Building, the Boat Shop is home to a well-run work shop that is filled with equipment and tools designed to assist our volunteers woodworkers.  The RFM Boat Shop is open and busy on Tuesday and Thursday mornings from 9:00am-12:00pm.  The volunteers work at building, repairing, re-conditioning and restoring wooden boats that have ties to the area.

This is a great place for retired folks to learn more about building ot repairing wooden boats.

Projects

Here are some of the thing the boat shop tackles every year:

  • Each year the volunteers build a wooden skiff to sell. The attention to detail is amazing
  • The crew also assists the Model Shop team to operate a nautical flea market in the fall (Reedville Classic Boat Show). The proceeds provide important funding for the museum.
  • Boat Shop volunteers serve as coaches for the annual Family Boat Building event in June.  Families build a 9 ft. rowing skiff over a period of 3 days…. then they take the boats home!

If you have an interest in joining this exciting work, you do not need specific skills or experience, only the motivation to help preserve these wooden boats that are so important to the area.
