Education Programs

Photo - Dr. Kim Schmidt instructs school-aged children about how to crab

The Education program at the Museum is run by volunteers under the guidance of Dr. Kim Schmidt. We focus on life in and near the water – brackish creeks and tidal rivers that flow into the Lower Chesapeake Bay.  Actually, the Chesapeake watershed covers hundreds of miles from the Bay to the mountains far to the west.

There are programs geared to children and adults. Teachers, home-schoolers, church leaders, Scout leaders, and other child-based organizations are encouraged to contact the Museum at 804-453-6529 or director@rfmuseum.org to schedule a tour based on your classroom needs.

Adult groups with special interests (fishing, crabbing, oystering, gardening, research, etc.) are also encouraged to consider bringing a group of lifetime-learners to discover life in and on the water.
